What is a Psychoeducational Assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that looks at how a student learns. It examines cognitive abilities (like memory, attention, and problem-solving), academic skills (such as reading, writing, and math), and emotional or behavioural factors that may affect learning.

These assessments are typically conducted by a registered psychologist and are used to identify learning strengths, challenges, and any specific needs or capacities.. The results help educators and families better understand how a student thinks and learns, and they inform our decisions about academic placement, classroom accommodations, and individualized learning strategies.
Why It Matters To Us
For students with special learning needs, the psychoeducational assessment is the most important document we consider when determining school placement. It helps us ensure that each child receives the right level of support and is placed in an environment where they are most likely to thrive.

While Liberty Academy provides in-house academic assessments, these are used primarily to supplement the formal psychoeducational report. Our in-house assessments help us further understand a child’s current performance level and guide classroom grouping. However, we do not conduct formal psychoeducational evaluations ourselves.

In addition, Liberty Academy does not currently provide speech therapy or behavioural therapy. However, we strongly recommend that students who require these services receive them from certified professionals. These interventions play a vital role in a child’s educational progress and well-being, and we work closely with families to support integration of those services into the student’s overall learning plan.
